The Hunger Games
Illusion, action, fear and hope …
In the Hunger Games 2012
Katniss and Peeta are traveling in a luxurious train being taken to Capitol after being chosen for participating in the 74th Hunger Games. Katniss volunteered to save her twelve year old sister who had been chosen by lottery as the representative of their province. Like them a boy and a girl from each of the 12 Districts of Panem will represent their area in a race until death. The fight is being broadcast live.
A race so old in which they have to fight against mother nature, beasts but also each other for survival…and at the same time so contemporary since like every reality show they should impress the sponsors, they should attract people’s love and take the highest marks they can. Among the participants there are those who have been practising their whole life for this fight and others like Katniss who for the first time have to come face to face not with death but with the strongest emotions one can experience in this cruel fight-to-the-death game in which only one can survive; only one will be the winner.
President Snow: Seneca…why do you think we have a winner?
Seneca Crane: What do you mean?
P.S. : I mean, why do we have a winner? I mean, if we just wanted to intimidate the districts, why not round up twenty-four at random and execute them all at one? It would be a lot faster.
[Seneca just stares confused]
P.S.: Hope. It is the only thing stronger than fear. A little hope is effective. A lot of hope is dangerous. Spark is fine as long as it’s contained.
P.S.: So, contain it.
