Grunge is back

Find out what Grunge look is, before you wear it this winter.

It was in the early 1990s that the Grunge look appeared for the first time combining elements of both Punk and Hippie Style. Originally it was more about music rather than fashion. It had its roots in the Seattle pop groups Nirvana and Pearl Jam and was particularly influential in the US.
It started as a result of the ailing economies of the time but also as a reaction to the consumerism of the 80s. But what started as a rebellion was soon embraced by supermodels such as Kate Moss and teenagers all around the world. The style was also picked up by many designers and turned into a well-known fashion trend.

Grunge is a disheveled style in which clothes are worn in layers. The main pieces for a grunge look are jeans, usually loose, well worn and with holes, plaid shirts, leather jackets and ex-army boots. The Dr. Martins boots are quite often worn to achieve the look, however, nowadays it is also heels that can really make it work.
One of the most recent examples of the grunge look on catwalk was by Hedi Slimane for fall 2013 while Vogue Paris September issue brings grunge fever to life in an editorial with fishnet tights, checked shirts and biker boots photographed by Mert Alas&Marcus Piggott.

Here you can find a list of pieces to choose from and make your own grunge style.
